This may seem nit-picky, but things change and companies should always be ahead of any changes when it comes to hiring practices. “Can I still ask this?” or “Can I say this?” may yield different results over time.
Ask questions like “what, when, who and why” when looking at the last employee that was hired. Verify that proper records are kept, as required by law. How, where and when are jobs posted and what are the numbers and nature of responses?
Sit in on interviews and watch the questions and exchanges- “Where did you grow up?” might seem like an acceptable question or it might seem discriminatory… “That is an interesting accent” might seem harmless, but could bring problems. Always analyze and make sure that the process is well-planned, executed and consistent.
Always examining your process will definitely result in an improved process and the best employees!
